WeDigBio 2019: Day One

Year 5 of WeDigBio is off to a fantastic start!

As Day 1 wraps up in the western hemisphere and Day 2 begins in the eastern hemisphere, let's have a look at some of the highlights so far!

There were numerous events today and lots of great pictures on Twitter

The folks at the PAC Herbarium at Penn State had fun and won some great door prizes (left), participants at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum worked through some beautiful 19th century specimens (center), and in Santa Barbara they were quite busy barcoding hundreds of specimens (right):

Events at Florida State University (left) and at The Field Museum (right) saw full houses of eager citizen science volunteers:

  • Florida State University WeDigBio event with a room full of volunteers.
  • The Field Museum WeDigBio event with volunteers working at tables.

Another of today's highlights was an effort by several participants to piece together the story of a 19th century botanist and accurately document her life:

  • Screenshot of a herbarium specimen image used for research and transcription.

And, as the California Phenology TCN points out, the WeDigBio dashboard is a great way to track your transcription activity:

So many other wonderful onsite events and participants, we can't share them all, but a huge thank you to everyone who has contributed! If you have photos from your event, interesting tidbits to share, or just want to be a part of the discussion, find us on Twitter @wedigbio and use #WeDigBio!

As always, email us with questions and comments: wedigbio@gmail.com

Looking forward to seeing what Day 2 brings!
